Lent Lily Narcissus Pseudonarcissus - 10 Fresh Bulbs by The Southern Bulb Company

The 'Lent Lily' (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) was the first Narcissus to be called a daffodil and is believed to be the mother of all modern trumpet daffodil varieties. Daffodils are a reliable perennial flower bulb with selections that bloom from winter throughout spring when there are few other flowers offering color to the garden, extending the season of color in our gardens.

Narcissus and daffodils are the same thing - daffodil is the more common name for the trumpet-shaped flower originating from a flower bulb and part of the Narcissus plant genus. All daffodils are in the Narcissus group.

These 'Lent Lily' bulbs grow best in USDA Hardiness Zones 6-8, requiring at least 1/2 day of winter sun. Plant the bulbs with about 3 inches of soil above the top of the bulb. While they may not bloom the first year as they get adjusted to their new home, once established, these perennials will last for decades and multiply with new bulb offsets.

Daffodils make great cut flowers for the home, with a lovely light fragrance. However, it's important to allow the foliage to die back naturally after blooming, as cutting, mowing, tying, or hiding the foliage can prevent the bulbs from sending nutrients back down for the next season's growth.

Reasons daffodils may not bloom include insufficient sun, planting in standing water, competition from other plants, or the bulbs needing a year or two to fully establish. As long as the bulb is firm, it is healthy and will bloom the following spring.
